It is an admirable attempt of man to assign a sort of importance to life. Amid chaos, death, and destruction we attempt to establish coherency. We will always develop more than we can destroy, because we have a predisposition to fear destruction. As long as man has that tendency, there will always be a pull toward life and an inward desire to create, even when everything else seems to shout contradictions.

So the lyrics in Rent are true, "The opposite of war isn't peace, it's creation."
